Lake Access and Parking Committee
The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) contracted the Lake Wah-Wash-Kesh Conservation Association to assume stewardship of the docks at Bennett's Bay and Indian Narrows. Over the past few years, we upgraded the docks, and introduced a user-fee system to cover routine annual maintenance and to build up a fund for the eventual replacement of the docks.
Finance Affairs Committee
Annual membership fees, donations, and a variety of fund-raising functions provide the money to operate our Association's activities. We hold the funds collected from these sources in the Association's bank account. Each year, we propose a budget in the newsletter to advise the members about our financial plan for the upcoming year. In addition, we routinely update the Executive at each board meeting, maintain full accounting records, and provide audited financial statements annually to the membership.

Fish Enhancement Committee
The original mandate of our committee, established in 1997, was to review the closure of Lake Wahwashkesh to ice fishing, and to make a recommendation to the Association about whether or not the closure should continue. Since then we broadened the mandate to include working with the MNR to assist in various data gathering techniques. We are actively working to determine the species, size, and number of fish, so that we can continue to improve sport fishing on our lake.

Planning Committee
In January 2000, we became part of the Municipality of Whitestone, and our Association has contributed significantly to the development of the Municipality's Official Plan. Land use planning is very important to Lake Wahwashkesh, and the outcome of good planning must be to safeguard our beautiful waters and natural shorelines. Because of the diverse spectrum of interests in cottage country, some cottage associations are developing Lake Plans. The Lake Plan approach was presented to Association members in 2002, and Association Directors asked that the Whitestone Official Plan contain language that would allow us to take the Lake Plan approach in the future, if we so choose.

Stewardship Committee
Lake Stewardship means protecting the environment for current and future generations. On our lake, this involves using volunteers and often non-legislated actions and programs. The Directors of our Conservation Association consider themselves the stewardship committee for Lake Wahwashkesh. Our specific stewardship efforts are focused on the following activities: communication, education, fish enhancement, analysis and testing of our waters, community and lake shore planning, maintaining access to our waters, support for special reserves, maintaining water levels, keeping our lake shores clean and natural, protecting endangered flora and fauna, and as individuals providing proper septic systems. This stewardship approach is the fundamental principle underlying almost all that the Lake Wah-Wash-Kesh Conservation Association does for our beautiful piece of Ontario.
